3rd ODI: India beat New Zealand by 7 Wickets to Clinch Series

New Zealand vs India, 3rd ODI, Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, 28 January 2019

INDIA leads the series by 3-0 (5)

Preview: After dominating the Kiwis in the first two ODIs, India tries to fasten this series with a victory. The Indian captain Virat Kohli has been given break for the following two ODI and the upcoming three T20I matches against the black caps. The return of Hardik Pandya brings balance to the squad. On the other side, New Zealand seems clueless against India’s wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

NEW ZEALAND 243/10 in 49 overs

New Zealand failed to put a tough total ahead of India in a must-win match. 244 looks like an easy target for India to achieve.

The toss was placed at 7.00 AM IST and the match began at 7.30 AM IST. After winning the toss and opting to bat, Kiwis didn’t make a good start, as Martin Guptill (13) and Colin Munro (7) were dismissed early. It again came down to Kane Williamson (28), but the skipper was dismissed as a result of Hardik Pandya’s sensational catch of the Chahal bowling. Ross Taylor (93) scored top for the Kiwis and was bogged down at the crease by the regular loss of its partners. Taylor and Latham established a partnership of 119 runs, but Taylor was deprived of a strike after Latham’s dismissal. At regular intervals, Kiwis kept losing wickets. Kumar and Shami join for the final wicket and dismissed Trent Boult. Shami was the star with the ball, claiming 3 wickets. With 2 important wickets, Pandya also made a successful return to the field.

Match Highlights:

* 119 run partnership of Taylor and Latham.

* Taylor’s 46th ODI half-century.

* Latham’s 13th half-century.
