Asia Series: For the Twenty20 series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Australian coach Justin Langer will now be assisted by former middle-order batsman Mike Hussey and Ryan Harris who will be mentoring the national team.
Hussey also revealed that he was excited about the World Cup which is supposed to be held in Australia next year and is looking for roles to help out from.
“I’m very excited actually. I’m looking forward to getting back in around the Aussie team,” 44-year-old Hussey, who played 38 T20 internationals for Australia, told News Ltd media.
“They have floated the possibility of being involved closer to the T20 World Cup as well, but it’s all pretty loose at the moment.”
Meanwhile, former fast bowler Ryan Harris will not continue in his usual role at the National Cricket Centre academy in Brisbane but will join up like a bowling coach with the senior side instead, replacing Troy Cooley who was in charge of the bowlers during the Ashes series in England.
These appointments fall in line with Langer’s usage of short term assistants for the supporting roles.
Former captain and legend of Australian cricket Ricky Ponting were brought in as a consultant during the World Cup in England.
“I can’t tell you how influential these guys can be on the group,” Langer said on Cricket Australia’s website.
“It’s about building our leadership, about honing their skills as cricketers, and they can just complement the other guys who are full-time coaches.”
