Rohit Sharma will take control of the side from Kohli who has been rested for the three T20I matches against Bangladesh that begin next month. Sanju Samson who recently scripted headlines with his record-breaking 212* innings which was the highest List A score by an Indian in domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy gets a nod along with Mumbaikar all-rounder Shivam Dube who will replace Hardik Pandya in the squad who’s still recovering from the surgery he underwent earlier this month.
Shardul Thakur and YuzvendraChahal also return to the T20 side. Thakur replaces Navdeep Saini in the lineup while Chahal sees himself back in the squad for the first time after having been left out of the team for the series against West Indies and South Africa.
Having made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in 2015, Sanju Samson, still 24 returns to the national team after four years. This is Samson’s third national team call-up. 26-year-old Dube finds himself in the national setup for the first time for his big-hitting. He recently scored 118 off 67 balls against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also had a handy series against South Africa A before that, adding quick runs towards the end of the innings and boasting scores of 79*(60), 45*(28) and 31(17).
The future of MS Dhoni playing international cricket is still in doubt as the selectors’ committee chose not to pick him for the series.
The first T20I between India and Bangladesh is scheduled on November 3, at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
