Ben Laughlin switches from Adelaide Strikers to Brisbane Heat

Ben Laughlin, who is the all-time leading wicket-taker in the Big Bash League (BBL) has signed with Brisbane Heat this year. Laughlin had just a single season left on his contract but he requested the club to release him so that he could be transferred to his home state, where he has now signed a two-year deal with Brisbane Heat.

Heat coach Darren Lehmann welcomed Laughlin, who has 95 wickets in the competition at an average of 21.55 and economy of 7.87, while also lauding the Strikers management for agreeing to the move.

“I think the Strikers management deserve a real wrap for the way they dealt professionally and compassionately with his request to be released,” Lehmann said. “In turn, the Heat are very pleased to welcome Ben to our club. I am looking forward to working with him again after he was in the Queensland team in the old KFC Big Bash in my first season with the Bulls.

“From a playing perspective, I’m a big admirer of how he deals so efficiently with the roles he is assigned. He’s been a very skilled performer in those overs when there is very little margin for error and has ridden the highs and lows that come with such a role.”
South Australia High-Performance Manager Tim Nielsen was disappointed to see Laughlin leave but understood the decision. “Ben has been a great bowler for us for a long time so we were disappointed but understood the decision,” Nielsen said. “He has two young boys now and wants to spend more time closer to the family home in Noosa.”

Laughlin is the latest acquisition in what has been an exciting pre-season for the Brisbane Heat in terms of new signings, having landed AB de Villiers, Tom Banton, and Afghanistan spinner Zahir Khan.
