Arafat Sunny Jr. and Mohammad Shahid handed one-year suspended ban sentences by BCB

Former Bangladesh pace bowler Mohammad Shahid was found guilty of provoking Shahadat Hossain which resulted in an assault on Arafat Sunny Jr. during the National Cricket League and as a result, was handed a one-year suspended suspension.

Arafat Sunny Jr. also received the same sentence of a year-long suspended suspension for provoking Shahadat Hossain as he kept on ignoring the pacer’s requests to shine the ball.

Shahadat has been slapped with a five-year ban with an additional two years suspended and was fined Taka 3 lakh for assaulting Sunny Jr. The incident had taken place during the second day’s play between Dhaka Division and Khulna Division at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna.

Sahid’s name was mentioned in the match referee Akhtar Ahmed’s report for starting the scuffle between the players. BCB’s technical committee handed the suspensions on Saturday (November 30) after BCB’s disciplinary committee called both the cricketers for hearing. “Both of them committed level two offense and were handed one-year suspended suspension,” BCB tournament committee official confirmed to Cricbuzz.

“Though they are not banned immediately, thereon and off-field activities will be monitored and if they commit any more offense than the ban will be implemented right away.”

Arafat Sunny Jr. had reportedly said that Shahadat was not competent to shine one side of the ball, which angered the pacer who then attacked his teammate. “Arafat Sunny Jr. did not act like a team man either. When Shahadat called him to shine the ball he was reluctant to do it and his behavior wasn’t appropriate towards a senior member of the team,” the BCB official said.

Meanwhile, Sahadat was granted a full hearing was granted by BCB as well but the board decided to keep his ban in place. Shahadat has played 38 Tests and 51 ODIs for Bangladesh apart from six T20Is and has 123 wickets to show for. He had been suspended before as well after he allegedly tortured his house help.
