Two of India’s star players Ishant Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan may not be playing for the upcoming test series going to happen in New Zealand. Even as news trickled in that Ishant was led off the field limping due to an ankle injury, it was Shikhar Dhawan’s turn to go off the field, due to a shoulder injury. Apparently, Dhawan was trying to stop a drive by Aaron Finch, when he landed on his left shoulder rather awkwardly, injuring it. For the Indian innings, he did not come out to play but was in a hospital undergoing screening. While he might not participate in the T20I Series that begins January 24th, he should be able to recover in time (hopefully) for the three ODI series beginning February 5th.
Right-arm fast-medium Bowler, Ishant Sharma has also lost the light of day as far as the upcoming Test series against New Zealand on February 21st is concerned. Playing for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy against Vidarbha, he suffered a grade 3 tear of the ankle.
For Shikhar Dhawan, speculations are galore, as to who will replace him – either Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, or Sanju Samson. Out of these players, Samson is the only one who has two T20I caps – but was not included in the New Zealand Series due to the return of Rohit Sharma. However, Shaw with his achievements of 150 in 100 balls in a 50-over game, is a strong contender to Samson.
